Most homes even new homes are not ventilated enough.
Good ventilation is essential for a cooler home in summer and a drier
attic in winter. It is necessary to
understand how proper ventilation works. The air movement in the attic
should begin by air entering the soffit vents that are located at the
bottom of the roof underneath the eave. The less dense (hot air) then
rises to the roofs peak where it should exit through some type of exhaust vents. Mother nature helps this process take
place as hot air naturally rises.
For proper ventilation your home needs
one soffit vent for every six to eight feet under the eaves. A good rule of
thumb is one soffit vent for every one-hundred foot of attic space. Gable
vents alone are not enough. Your home is choking if it does not have
proper ventilation.
Proper ventilation will reduce the possibility of dangerous mold and
mildew from forming and will also prevent wood rot. These stem from moisture
build-up in your attic that most commonly occurs in the winter months
It will also help prolong the life of your roof. The life of a roof is often cut
short due to improper ventilation allowing too much heat to build-up and prematurely deteriorate the shingles. This heat build up in the attic can be greatly reduced
with ventilation.
Ventilation is much more than a simple breeze blowing through your
house. It’s a process that provides a steady, high volume of air
movement. Think about it as a system of components, all sized and
positioned to provide constant intake and exhaust of air.
We offer: wind turbines, solar vents, power vents, soffit vents and much more.
